General discussion on trade news and updates – post your updates and queries here.

The manufacturer’s page is now here: Manufacturers – NZ Model Railway Guild (thejournal.nz)

Our medium-term strategy is to build The Journal’s shop capability so that manufacturers who don’t have a web presence can make use of the Guild’s presence to find customers.

3 Foot 6 Models update: work on the DG class corrections continues, with two major changes / corrections to the model made:

    – Cab and rear of the locomotive now taper in, rather than being flag

    – Front cab windows are now angled, as on the prototype, and not flat.

Work continues on the KiwiRail DM class, for everyone with a pre-order watch this space!

The radius across the top of the Dg bonnet at front (above the headlight) is not a constant radius but is a variable one, having a larger radius midway than at the outer edges.

This GA has most of the necessary information.

Sorry, another fail. The software appears to have downsized and cropped my file.

Turns out the only fail was letting me see my own post. When I clicked the image ready to send I got a cropped postage stamp size mess of tiny lines. I see no that the attachment was actually successful.

Yes the software scales down images for previews – there doesn’t appear to be a way to disable this unfortunately.

That drawing has something odd going on. It’s been compressed somewhat around the centre porthole window which is rendered oval. Other features in that vertical alignment are similarly distorted.

DM class update: with the arrival of the first two prototype DM class locos, it’s time to (finally!) get this design completed – I’ve made several modifications to the shell, including thickening the walls and adding extra stays, as well as some detail corrections now I’ve seen some decent close-up photos – the anti-climbers are indeed quite far out from the cab!

    3 Foot 6 Models

3 Foot 6 Models has announced that for every model of the 88-seater “twinset” railcars sold, it will donate $5 to the Pahiatua Railcar Society’s campaign to restore RM121.

Aluminium 3D-printed versions of the NZR UK class container wagon are now also available in NZ120 scale.

I think (judging by the strata lines in this print) this is a print from my older 4K printer…

    TRADE NEWS:
First trade news of 2025 is from Back Bar Models, who announced on New Year’s Day that their L class steam locomotive kits are now available.

On their Facebook page, the supplier of NZR models and parts say:

It has been a long journey to get to this point, which I’m sure will be worth the wait. I will be in touch with those who have placed orders already. If you haven’t, there are a couple of kits available in this batch.
For those who ordered RTR models, these will be built this year
