About the Guild

The NZ Model Railway Guild provides a link between model railway enthusiasts with a focus on modelling the New Zealand prototype.

The New Zealand Model Railway Guild is the oldest model railway club in the country.

Since its inception in 1948, the Guild has been a 'club without walls'.  NZMRG membership is across all of New Zealand and today there are subscribers to The Journal across the entire world.

NZMRG (the Guild) is a club which has increasingly focussed on modelling the New Zealand prototype, whether the government or public railway, or the myriad of bush, coal and other private railways that have been constructed in New Zealand over the last 150 years.

The Guild publishes the NZ Model Railway Journal (The Journal).  The Journal contains articles about modelling New Zealand’s railways along with plans and drawings, photographs and historical notes.

The Guild has also developed a comprehensive range of plans of New Zealand railway prototypes.  There is a number of plan series and these are further detailed in our Shop section of the website.

The website is an extension of the Guild’s activities.  It is a forum for modellers to meet and exchange their ideas, their thoughts, and their plans. The Guild’s Journal Archive is a place to find more background information and to peruse articles from earlier Journals.
